The Collingwood Colts announced and signed six players this weekend, including one local defenseman.
Eric Lalonde, 17, signed his contract on Saturday, June 1 as a right defenseman. Lalonde is a Jean Vanier Catholic High School Student and was chosen 74th overall in the 2017 draft.
Rounding out the six signings are:
Goalie: Matteo Lalama, 17, of St. Catharines. Lalama played Niagara midget 'AAA' hockey and was fourth overall in the under-18 draft for 2019.
Right defense: Ayden Dooley, 16, of Orillia. Dooley played for the Orillia Terriers Junior 'C' team and was taken 183rd overall in the 2018 draft.
Right defense: Cameron Vassos, 16, of Caledon. Vassos played for the Vaughan Kings midget 'AAA' team and was selected 237th overall in the 2018 draft.
Left defense: Owen Ledwell, 18, of Ottawa. Ledwell played for the Kingston Voyageurs Junior 'A' team.
Also signing on Saturday was Luc Reeve, 17, who is a left wing/centre from Kingston. He played for the Kingston Voyageurs Junior 'A' team and was picked 143rd overall in the 2018 draft.
The Collingwood Colts, which will serve as a farm system for the OHL's Barrie Colts, officially introduced their coaching staff and management in April.
Greg Johnston is the head coach of the team with Nick Rica as associate coach.
Dermot Anderson is the general manager of the club.
Owner and president David Steele was at the signing on Saturday, which took place at Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.
Anderson has experience in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, and Rica is a long-standing coach with the North Central Predators 'AAA' organization.
Johnston, who played in the NHL with the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs, was most recently the coach for the Barrie 'AAA' team.
The Collingwood Colts will play their home games at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena. No schedule has been released yet.
