NEWS RELEASE
SAVESTATION
*************************
Barrie resident Sharon Boyle launched a SaveStation crowdfunding campaign on Thursday, Feb. 4 and, within the first two hours, had surpassed her initial goal of $4,200. So much so, the family decided to fund a second SaveStation installation and the donations keep climbing. Sharon and her family are raising money for the installation of this life-saving outdoor AED cabinet in memory of their beloved husband and father, Randy Boyle.
As part of Heart Month (February) the SaveStation will be installed on Family Day, Feb. 15, on the front of the Midhurst Wellness Centre/Pharmasave.
February is always a tough month for the Boyle family. Seven years ago, on February 5, after his twice-weekly hockey game, Randy Boyle had a devastating heart attack at his home that led to sudden cardiac arrest. His passing left an irreparable hole in the lives of his wife of 25 years Sharon, his children Bailey, 27, Teagan, 24, and a large circle of family, friends and the community at large. Now, the Boyle family is turning this date into something positive as they pay tribute to his memory.
Randy and Sharon spent many years living in Midhurst and on her crowdfunding campaign page Sharon reminisces about gathering with others in the area at what was then called the Midhurst General Store for ice cream. That store now is part of the building that houses Midhurst Physiotherapy and Pharmasave at 94 Finlay Mill Road. Sharon wants to give back to the community that has supported them over the years by raising funds to install the outdoor SaveStation at this location in Midhurst.
Midhurst Wellness Centre/Pharmasave is pleased to support the Boyle family’s memorial installation of an AED and outdoor SaveStation, to be placed in the heart of Midhurst. Physiotherapist Craig Glover and Pharmacist/Owner Carolyn Glover purchased the building in 2014. Following extensive renovations, the building reopened as Midhurst Pharmasave and Midhurst Wellness Centre, which houses Midhurst Physiotherapy, Midhurst Foot Clinic and Old Stone Massage Therapy.
This SaveStation will be clearly marked for public use and will be mounted on the side of the building to make sure that the AED inside is available 24/7 for anyone in the neighbourhood to access, anytime of day or night. The technology built into this SaveStation allows for 24/7 monitoring of the AED to ensure it is always ‘ready for rescue’ and will take a picture when the cabinet is opened. This cabinet also keeps the AED warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Since the donations have surpassed the Boyle family's original fundraising goal, they have increased their target and are planning to hopefully place a free-standing SaveStation Tower with a life-saving AED in Randy's memory at the Midhurst Sports Complex.
SaveStation Installation Date: February 15, 2021
Event Location: Midhurst Wellness Centre/Pharmasave. 94 Finlay Mill Road, Midhurst
