Following the Township of Oro-Medonte’s Strategic Plan and long-term Capital Plan, plans for the development of a centrally-located Community Centre/School in partnership with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) are now underway.

A preferred location for the facility has been identified and staff are completing the necessary due diligence to confirm the feasibility of the site, which should be completed this fall.

The site is a 20-acre Township-owned property east of Horseshoe Valley Road and Line 4 North (known as 739 Horseshoe Valley Road). It is adjacent to Horseshoe Valley Memorial Park, Fire Headquarters, the Nurse Practitioner Clinic and the OPP satellite office.

This will create a desirable hub of community facilities.

The SCDSB will review student accommodation options during the 2018-2019 school year. This review is to establish the attendance area for the elementary school and assess the location of the area French Immersion program.

The details of this public consultation process will be shared with school communities in the fall of 2018.

The municipal contribution to the school facility could potentially result in a larger, enhanced gymnasium and a multipurpose room to support community programming. Outdoor and other indoor facilities may be included in Phase One and possible future phases.

You can have your say Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. A public meeting will be held in the Alpine Room of Horseshoe Resort.

Residents are invited to learn more about the project by attending this community forum to get information and to share ideas.
