The Barrie Out of the Cold 2016-17 Season gets underway tonight protecting Barrie's homeless from the cold.

This is the start of the 19th year of providing safe, respectful, welcoming overnight accommodation and meals for the homeless on Barrie’s streets.

Barrie Out of the Cold provides an alternative to sleeping out in the cold from November to April each year.

Doors open at 6 p.m. tonight at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church located at 47 Owen Street.

During its season of operation, which runs from mid-November to the end of April, Barrie Out of the Cold operates out of five host churches, providing meals and overnight accommodations for our guests.

In 2015-16, the organization provided meals and shelter 5,494 times.

Barrie Out of the Cold requires more than 1,000 volunteers annually to provide this important community service.
