Barrie firefighters extinguish a blaze in a dumpster on Thursday night at an apartment building on Bayview Drive in the city's south end.

No injuries are being reported following a fire at an apartment building on Bayview Avenue in the city's south end last night.

“We received multiple calls on it, as well as (from) the alarm company," said Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark. "Something had ignited inside the garbage bin at the bottom of the chute.

"There was smoke in the garbage bin and on the first floor of the building,” Clark added. “The sprinklers activated as designed.”

Crews were able to put out the fire, which Clark called “contained and small."

Firefighters also conducted “overhaul” to ensure it had not spread to anywhere else in the building, which is located at 150 Bayview Dr., across the street from Allandale Recreation Centre.
