Rhythmfest, Barrie’s most interactive event, returns August 12 and 13. The City of Barrie is looking for drummers to compete in Just Beat It! The Search for Central Ontario’s Best Drummer happening August 13 in Heritage Park.
This annual drum solo competition gives Barrie and regional drummers the chance to perform for a panel of esteemed judges to win great prizes.
Registrations are being accepted until August 5. This featured event is sponsored by Music Pro, Fly Media, Canadian Drum Gear and Collision Drum Sticks.
Rhythmfest also features an evening of workshops and entertainment at Holly Community Park in Barrie’s south end on Friday, August 12.
Register for the Educators’ Drumming Workshop or catch an amazing lineup of musical acts including Modus Factor, a Toronto based trio performing electro-ambient improvisational jazz, Errol Lee and his break dancers and more.
Saturday’s activities in Heritage Park include workshops and performances from a variety of musical and dance acts representing Canada’s diverse rhythmic culture.
Featured acts include Sultans of String, Autorickshaw, TooNice, the NEEMA Children’s Choir, Chris Lesso, and workshops on cajon drumming, hand drumming, kit drumming, and a variety of dance styles, appropriate for all ages.
Each year the event also pays tribute to a Canadian artist who has shaped the rhythmic landscape of our country. This year’s honouree is Indian percussionist Trichy Sankaran.
The City of Barrie is looking for volunteers to assist with a variety of duties, including entertainment liaisons, instrument rental, waste management, parking control, and more.
