YOUTH HAVEN

Youth Haven, Simcoe County’s only shelter dedicated to supporting homeless and at-risk youth, is thrilled to announce Demo Day, the official launch of the long-anticipated rebuild project [on Wellington Street East in Barrie].
The demo officially started on Oct. 30, which marks the beginning of construction for a new, modernized facility designed to provide enhanced support, safety, and resources to vulnerable youth in the community.
With representatives from the Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association, the Youth Haven team, and local community members in attendance, Demo Day kicked off with a ceremonial demolition of the current building to pave the way for a state-of-the-art shelter.
Youth Haven has been providing critical support services for over 30 years, and the new facility will enable the organization to expand its reach and services.
“Youth Haven’s Demo Day symbolizes a fresh start for countless young lives,” said Lucy Gowers, executive director at Youth Haven. “This new facility will allow us to provide a safe space, hope, and brighter futures for our youth in need.
"Our new shelter is not just a building; it’s a lifeline. It provides safety, stability, and a sense of belonging to those who find themselves in vulnerable situations," she added. "Here, youth can access essential services including counselling, education, employment, and housing assistance, given the opportunity to learn basic skills and tools that empower them to rebuild their lives and create a better future for themselves. When we provide a safe haven, we’re offering more than shelter; we are providing hope. We are grateful for the incredible community support that has brought us to this exciting day.”
