SEAN. is excited to announce the official opening of its innovative Rainwater Net Zero Ready townhomes, marking a major milestone in sustainable housing.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Sept. 26, 2024 [at 339 Veterans Dr.] was well attended by community members, industry professionals and government representatives, celebrating the forward-thinking vision that makes Rainwater one of the most progressive residential developments in Ontario.

The event featured tours of the newly completed model suites and included remarks from key leaders, including Sean Mason, owner of SEAN.; Alex Nuttall, mayor of Barrie; Matt McCurrach, president of the Canadian Home Builders' Association (CHBA); Sandy Tuckey, CEO of the Simcoe County Home Builders' Association (SCHBA); Philippe St-Jean from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), and supported by CHBA’s Net Zero team.

Federal and provincial representatives were also in attendance to show support for the ongoing effort toward energy-efficient building practices.

Rainwater’s Net Zero Ready townhomes are part of a broader national demonstration initiative led by CHBA with funding from NRCan’s Green Infrastructure Program, focusing on affordable, replicable and marketable Net Zero Multi-Unit Residential Buildings (MURBs).

SEAN. is proud to be one of the five builders across Canada selected for this prestigious project. These efforts reflect the culmination of years of research and innovation in building practices, proving that energy-efficient construction can be successfully applied to both attached and multi-family homes.

All units in the Rainwater development have qualified under the CHBA’s Net Zero Home Labelling Program, which sets rigorous technical standards. Achieving the Net Zero Ready certification is no small feat, requiring builders to adopt a ‘house-as-a-system’ mindset to optimize energy performance.

SEAN. worked with Angela Bustamante, director of technical and building services at Building Knowledge Canada, to ensure third-party verification of the homes' energy loads, validating their readiness to be powered by renewable energy generation in the future.

Sean Mason, owner of SEAN., expressed his commitment to sustainability in his speech: "When we have the ability to do something better, then we have that responsibility to do something better."

Rainwater is more than just a housing development; it is a community built with sustainability at its core. The project includes 35 Net Zero Ready Modern Towns surrounding a communal park, along with a 38-unit ENERGY STAR Condominium. SEAN. is setting a new standard for environmentally responsible, future-proof housing developments.
