GEORGIAN GRIZZLIES

The Georgian Grizzlies men’s and women’s volleyball teams hosted the Algonquin Thunder on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.
It was an intense game between the division-leading Grizzlies and third-place Thunder in the men’s game.
Both teams battled back and forth throughout the game, but it was the Grizzlies who were able to come out on top in each of the three tight sets to win 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-20).
Erich Perau (Peterborough) had a team-high 11 kills along with two aces while Jordi Romero (Brampton) had eight kills, one ace and a block for a 10-point game.
Liam Gray (Barrie) was solid again posting 30 assists, four kills, two aces and a block.
The Grizzlies move to 13-2 on the season and they remain in a tie atop of the OCAA east division standings with the La Cite Coyotes, their next opponent.
In the women’s game, the Grizzlies were in tough against a tough Thunder team.
The Grizzlies battled hard in their three sets but couldn’t get over the hump as they fell 3-0 to the Thunder by set scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-19.
Kelsey Watson (Barrie) returned to the Grizzlies lineup and had a team-high 16 points from 11 kills, three aces and two blocks.
Amber Maw (Huntsville) had a solid game with seven kills and an ace while Sophia Clement (Toronto) had 18 assists.
Georgian is stuck in a five game losing streak as their record fell to 5-10 on the season and they sit in a tie for seventh place in the OCAA east division standings.
The Grizzlies will play their final regular season home games of the year on Saturday afternoon when they host the La Cite Coyotes.
The women’s game gets underway at 1 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m. prior to each game a special ceremony will take place recognizing the graduating student-athletes.
Tickets to the double-header are available at the doors for $5 each.
