Essa Road going under Highway 400 in Barrie will be closed overnight Saturday for demolition of the old bridge.
Green Infrastructure Partners (GIP), which is working for the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) on the project, requires a full Essa Road closure under Highway 400, as well as the westbound Essa Road to southbound Highway 400 ramp, on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 9 p.m. until Sunday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m.
No traffic or emergency services will be able to travel through the closure.
In the event of inclement weather, the city says the work will be pushed to the following Saturday.
Detour route in effect: D3 – Essa Road – Anne Street South – Dunlop Street West – Ferndale Drive South – Ardagh Road.
The MTO project includes a new interchange at Essa Road and Highway 400, while also widening Essa Road to six lanes. It also includes significant roadwork on Highway 400, between Harvie Road and Tiffin Road, along with a widening of Essa Road to six lanes between Fairview Road and Bryne Drive/Ardagh Drive.
The estimated completion date is in 2025.
