The eighth annual Barrie Fall Fishing Festival starts today and runs until Sept. 30 on Kempenfelt Bay.
The event is a catch-and-release tournament featuring tagged perch and runs from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. over the 10 days.
There are 56 tagged fish in the bay worth $375 to $750.
The tournament encourages anglers of all ages and skill levels to enjoy fishing from shore or on their boat.
The grand-prize draw is for a 14-foot Legend ProSport TL Boat, 20-horsepower Mercury motor and Shorelander trailer.
A prize pool is in excess of $40,000 and is expected to attract 1,000-plus anglers over the 10-day festival.
The net proceeds from the Fall Fishing Festival help fund the numerous environmental initiatives taken on by the Barrie-Huronia Rotary Club.
The 2018 proceeds will fund the club's dock project which will be positioned on the Kempenfelt Bay shoreline at Heritage Park.
