Fire crews battle blaze at west-end auto shop

'There was some heavy black smoke in the area and the commander called for some extra trucks to assist,' Barrie deputy chief says of blaze at Tiffin and Ferndale

Several trucks are still on the scene of a fire this afternoon at a west-end Barrie auto shop, but what caused the blaze at Tiffin and Ferndale remains under investigation.

Fire crews are battling a blaze at Barrie Frame and Alignment, located at 389 Tiffin St., which Deputy Chief Ed Davis told BarrieToday was nearly under control around 3 p.m., Sunday.

“The call came in at about 2 p.m. There was some heavy black smoke in the area and the commander called for some extra trucks to assist,” Davis said. “We had about six trucks on scene, but are beginning to release some now.

"When we first got there, we had some heavy heat and smoke, but it is under control and we’re just taking care of some pocketed hot spots now," he added.

Around 2:45 p.m., white smoke was still coming out of the back of the building as an aerial ladder was stationed overhead.

Fire investigators are on their way to the scene, Davis said. No cause or monetary damage is known yet.

No injuries were reported.

Davis said streets surrounding the business are blocked by emergency crews and the Tiffin Street-Ferndale Drive intersection has traffic being diverted to Tiffin Street East.
