Barrie firefighters responded to a blaze in the basement of the Farmhouse Restaurant on Bradford Street, Sunday afternoon.
At the scene, Platoon Chief Domenic Filippelli said the fire had been contained to the basement area of the historic building, which is located between Essa Road and Lakeshore Drive.
"It was a working fire when we arrived with smoke and flames," he said. "Our guys were able to do a good job knocking it down."
There were no injuries and everyone was able to exit the building safely, Filippelli said.
At its height, there were 12 firefighters on scene.
The call came in around 3 p.m.
An investigator from the Barrie fire department has been called in to determine a cause, which currently hasn't been established.
