Four new COVID cases today in Barrie, Innisfil schools

There are four new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County schools today.

One new case is being reported at The Good Shepherd Catholic School on Cloughley Drive in Barrie, near Ferndale Drive and Livingstone Street. No classrooms have been closed as a result of this case.

Holy Cross Catholic School in Innisfil is reporting one new case today. This adds to seven cases and one classroom closure previously reported. The school was declared in outbreak by the health unit on March 16.

At the public school board, there are two new cases at Boyne Rover Public School in Alliston today. No classrooms have been closed as a result of those cases.

There are four Simcoe County schools that have active outbreaks declared by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit: Holy Cross Catholic School in Innisfil, Our Lady of Grace in Angus, Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford, and Andrew Hunter Elementary School in Barrie.

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit site, an outbreak is declared at a school when student and/or staff have confirmed COVID-19 cases that can be linked to the educational setting.

As of March 24 at the Simcoe County District School Board, there are currently 22 active COVID-19 cases:

  • Two cases at Boyne Rover Public School in Alliston
  • Two cases at Cookstown Central Public School in Cookstown, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at Ernest Cumberland Elementary School in Alliston, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Severn Shores Public School in Cumberland Beach, with one classroom closed
  • Two cases at Steele Street Public School in Barrie, with two classrooms closed
  • One case at West Bayfield Elementary School in Barrie
  • One case at Banting Memorial High School in Alliston, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Bear Creek Secondary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Twin Lakes Secondary School in Orillia, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Georgian Bay District Secondary School in Midland
  • One case at Hillcrest Elementary School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Allandale Heights Public School in Barrie, with one classroom closed
  • Two cases at Ferndale Woods Elementary School in Barrie
  • One case at Sunnybrae Public School in Innisfil, with one classroom closed
  • One case at Innisdale Secondary School in Barrie with one classroom closed
  • One case at Portage View Public School in Barrie
  • One case at Andrew Hunter Elementary School in Barrie, outbreak declared Mar. 9
  • One case at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford, with one classroom closed

At the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are currently 31 active COVID-19 cases:

  • One case at The Good Shepard Catholic School in Barrie, no classrooms closed, reported on Mar. 23
  • St. John Paul II Catholic School in Barrie has two cases with no classrooms closed, reported on Mar. 21
  • St. Paul's Catholic School in Alliston has one case and one classroom closure, reported on Mar. 19
  • Holy Cross Catholic School in Innisfil has eight cases, with one classroom closed, reported on Mar. 23, outbreak declared Mar. 16
  • St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in Innisfil has one case and no classroom closures, reported on Mar. 15
  • St. Mary's Catholic School in Barrie has one case and one classroom closure, reported on Mar. 13
  • St. Peter's Catholic Secondary School in Barrie has two cases and two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 16
  • Father F.X. O'Reilly Catholic School in Tottenham has two cases, and one classroom closure reported on Mar. 17
  • Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Angus has four cases and two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 16, outbreak declared Mar. 14
  • St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Barrie has two cases and one classroom closure, reported on Mar. 10
  • St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in Barrie has two cases with two classroom closures, reported Mar. 14
  • Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford has two cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 22, outbreak declared Mar. 2
  • St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School has three cases, with two classroom closures, reported on Mar. 18

The health unit will contact those who are considered to have had high-risk exposure to a known case of COVID-19.
