Conseil scolaire Viamonde celebrates 20 years with massive gathering in Barrie

Hundreds of students from French-language public schools north of Toronto descended on Barrie’s Sunnidale Park for a day-long celebration, Friday.

Conseil scolaire Viamonde, or Viamonde French School Board, which spans Penetanguishene to Bowmanville and Welland to Windsor, marked 20 years in existence with a day full of activities.

The day included more than 1,800 people from eight schools as well as board offices participating in everything from dancing to just burning off steam in the playground.

The celebration had kids from Grades 1 to 12 from nine different francophone schools in the area, including École  élémentaire La Source (Barrie), École publique Saint-Joseph (Penetanguishene), Académie La Pinède (CFB Borden), École La Fontaine (Kleinburg), École élémentaire des Quatre-Rivières (Orangeville), Académie de La Moraine (Richmond Hill), École secondaire Le Caron (Penetanguishene), École secondaire Roméo-Dallaire (Barrie) and École secondaire Norval-Morrisseau (Richmond Hill).
