Georgian College is pleased to announce that Dr. Maher Ghalayini will take on the role of associate vice president academic beginning Jan. 31.

Ghalayini first joined Georgian in 2017 and currently serves as dean of Business and Management and Automotive, leading a portfolio of more than 25 full-time programs, overseeing Ontario Learn programming to offer more course options to students, and working closely with Part-time Studies to maximize flexibility for a variety of learners.

He has and will continue to be Georgian’s lead on the Lakehead-Georgian partnership which is critical to making degree-level studies accessible in Simcoe County.

“I’m thrilled that Maher will have more opportunity to advance his commitment to excellence and innovation in education in this new role,” said Kevin Weaver, Vice President, Academic. “He’s an experienced strategic leader, who will ensure our program offerings and flexible modes of delivery evolve to best serve students as well as local employers.”

Ghalayini will work to create an environment where learners can access quality education in a flexible environment.

“I look forward to working closely with all stakeholders at Georgian’s seven campuses to achieve the institution's strategic goals,” he says. “I’m deeply devoted to working with industry and community partners to provide skilled graduates that will contribute to the economic and cultural growth in the region.”

Ghalayini brings more than 16 years of experience in the Ontario post-secondary sector. Prior to joining Georgian, he was at Sheridan College, where he served as the Associate Dean in Applied Health, Community Studies and School of Early Childhood Education. His experience also includes roles as adjunct professor and curriculum developer at York and Trent universities. His research focus has been on the experiences of international students, as well as international partnerships in applied research.

Ghalayini holds an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, a Master of Laws in Business Law from Osgoode Law School at York University, and a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University in Boston.
