The Georgian Grizzlies men’s rugby team played their first home game of the 2018 OCAA season on Saturday afternoon when they hosted the Mohawk Mountaineers at J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.

Following an early score by the Mountaineers the Grizzlies took over scoring 55 unanswered points in the game’s first half.

Georgian kept going forward in the second half leading to an impressive 114-10 victory over Mohawk.

Rookie Tennyson Brown (Alliston) led the way for the Grizzlies scoring a team high four tries. Ryan Connolly (Barrie) was also solid scoring 12 converts and adding a try of his own for a 29 point game.

Mark Rodman (Minesing), Jayden Wheeler (Keswick), Liam Wilson (Orillia) and Damon Green (Newmarket) each had two tries for Georgian.

The Grizzlies other tries were scored by Marcus Botham (Innisfil), Donovan Jacko (Brampton), Isaiah Miller (Barrie) and Brodie Ranger (Elliot Lake).

Georgian is now a perfect 3-0 on the season and have outscored their opponents 212-25 through their first three contests.

This sets up a big matchup as the Grizzlies will host the only other undefeated team in the OCAA west division standings, and last year’s OCAA Champions, the Sheridan Bruins (3-0) this coming Thursday, Oct. 4.

The game will be played under the lights at J.C. Massie Field on the Georgian College Barrie campus at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the game are available at the doors for $5.
