Gold medal performance for Barrie Bombers

It was a memorable tournament for the Bombers novice lacrosse team

The Paul Sadlon Motors Barrie Bombers Novice 1 Team has brought home the gold medal from the C division at the Ontario Lacrosse Festival on Aug. 12, 2018.

The boys were on fire during the round robin to finish first in their pool. In quarterfinal action they faced their Zone 4 rivals, the Huntsville Hawks, where down to the very last minute a final goal was scored by Darcy Meugee to win 5-4.

In semiinal match up on Sunday morning vs the West Durham Rockmen, goals were being scored from both sides and the game was tied 8-8 in the final period. Under a cloud of Bomber fans cheering loud, the winning goal came from Oban Forrest with under two minutes left in the game. Thomas Lewis went on to score on an empty net goal to make the score 10-8 and move on to the finals.

The championship game was set for 3:45 p.m., Sunday at Iroquois Sport Complex versus the Stouffville Thunder. After a very intense first and second period the Bombers were down 4-3 going into the last period of play. Bomber fans were cheering loud and the arena was shaking when they tied it up with less than four minutes left in the game. Darcy Meugee scored the goal that won the game for Barrie! Final score 5-4.

Provincial gold was theirs! One Team One Fight, Barrie Bombers left it all on the floor – the fans were so proud!

For some of the seasoned Bombers on the team this is their sixth season playing lacrosse and their first provincial gold medal. The entire Bomb Squad, parents,
coaches and fans are exceptionally proud of their hard work all season!

The team will be honoured for their accomplishment at City of Barrie Council meeting, Oct. 1, 2018 at 7 p.m.
