Snow squall watch in effect.

Flurries,  risk of late afternoon squalls, local blowing snow late this morning and this afternoon, amount 2 to 4 cm with wind gusting up to 50 km/h and the high plus 2.

Here are the details of the snow squall watch issued by Environment Canada:

4:47 AM EST Thursday 29 December 2016

Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale
  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago

Lake effect flurries and local snow squalls are expected to develop late this afternoon and shift through the region tonight.

Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm will be possible under the most intense bands.

The squalls are forecast to persist through Friday in some areas.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.

To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports to #ONStorm.
