A snow squall watch is in effect.

Flurries and local squalls, about 10 to 15 cm, wind gusting to 40 km/h and the high -4.

Mainly cloudy tomorrow, 60 percent chance of morning flurries and the high -7.

Periods of snow Tuesday and the high -3.

Here are the details of the snow squall watch issued by Environment Canada:

4:41 AM EST Sunday 29 January 2017

Snow squall watch in effect for:

  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale

Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

Flurries may develop into local snow squalls beginning this morning.

Colder northwest winds will help to create more favourable conditions for snow squalls beginning later this morning.

Any snow squalls that develop will tend to lock into a more favourable position for a significant snowfall of potentially 15 centimetres per 12 hours.

Most of it would fall today into this evening. The greatest likelihood would be from Thornbury to Collingwood and southeastwards. Barrie will not likely be impacted to the same degree.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
