The Georgian Grizzlies men’s basketball team hosted the La Cite Coyotes on Friday night at the Georgian Athletic Centre in Barrie.

The Grizzlies put together arguably their best effort of the season as Georgian were able to get ahead late in the first quarter and never looked back for a 105-73 win.

The 32-point spread was Georgian’s largest margin of victory this season.

Anthony Meggo (Whitby) led the way for the Grizzlies with a team-high 20-point effort. Over his last three games, the fourth-year guard is averaging 24.3 points per game.

Rookie teammate Jaan Bukhari (Newmarket) was impressive once again scoring 19 points as he shot 70.0% from the field and was a perfect 3-for-3 on three-pointers.

The Grizzlies have now won two straight contests and have got their record back to .500 at 7-7 on the season. Georgian moves into a tie with Loyalist for sixth place in the OCAA east division standings.

Georgian will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they host the Algonquin Thunder at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

The Grizzlies will be hosting their annual Bell Let’s Talk game in support of mental-health awareness. Fans in attendance will receive free Bell Let’s Talk thunder sticks while supplies last to “make some noise” for mental health. There will also be prize draws for Bell Let’s Talk toques, Grizzlies prize packs and Barrie Colts tickets.

The women’s game gets underway at 1 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the double-header are available at the doors for $5 with the proceeds from the game going towards mental health initiatives.
