Oro-Medonte residents, would you like a pollinator garden in your local park?

The Oro-Medonte Horticultural Society is funding a pollinator garden for 2024.

Gather together a few of your neighbours, write a brief plan of where you are located, why you want the garden, what your vision of the garden is and who will maintain it. Send your plan to [email protected]. One garden will be chosen to be installed in the spring of 2024.

The size and location of the garden in the park will be agreed upon by Oro-Medonte Township, Oro-Medonte Horticultural Society and the neighbourhood volunteers.

The deadline is Sept. 30, 2023, so send your request in soon. Send your entry by email to [email protected].

Professor to speak at Sept. 11 meeting

Clement Kent, professor of biology at York University in Toronto, will speak at the Oro-Medonte Horticultural Society general meeting on Sept. 11, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. His research looks at the best plantings to create permanent habitat for pollinators on public lands and in private gardens. Dr. Kent teaches masters of science students at York. He is an adviser to the City of Toronto on its pollinator protection strategy.

The Sept. 11 meeting takes place at the Oro-Medonte Community Arena on Highway 11 at Line 4, upstairs in the meeting room. Guests are welcome. The September flower show will also be taking place. An elevator is available. Please lug a mug. Refreshments will be served. Join us.

Memberships are available for sale at $15 per year or $20 for a family membership.
