Flames from a large shed fire at 19 Noam Drive caused damage to the siding of the home as well as to a neighbouring property.

No cause has been determined following a fire in the backyard of a North Barrie home late Friday night.

Barrie Fire and Emergency Services got a call about a shed fire at 19 Noam Drive — near Cundles Road W and Kozlov Street — around 11:40 p.m. on Friday, June 14, confirmed Deputy Chief Carrie Clark.

“The call came in as a shed on fire at the back of the property,” she told BarrieToday, noting the shed was quite large, measuring approximately 15x15 feet.

Clark was unable to confirm if an explosion occurred, however said when it comes to shed fires, it’s not uncommon for someone to report hearing an explosion, given the contents of many sheds.

“Anything from a tire to a spray can … those are often described as explosions (because) it’s not abnormal to have pressurized things in a shed.”

The shed, she said, was “completely consumed” and radiant heat from the fire also impacted the fence and some of the siding on the back of the home. There was also some exposure damage to the house next door from the radiant, Clark noted.

“Crews and we were able to get it knocked down and everything extinguished and left in a safe state in about 90 minutes,” she said.

No injuries were reported and no cause has been determined, said Clark,
