Holiday season schedule changes, reminders

BARRIE, ON – The City of Barrie reminds residents of the following schedule changes for Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016, to Monday, Jan. 2, 2017.

Barrie Transit Holiday Schedule

Dec. 24: Regular service
Dec. 25: No service
Dec. 26: Sunday service with an early 7 a.m. start
Dec. 27: Regular weekday service
Dec. 31: Free service from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Jan. 1: No service
Jan. 2: Regular weekday service

There will be no change to garbage, organics, recycling, and yard waste collection during the holidays in Barrie.

Collection will occur as usual on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) and will remain on the regular schedule throughout the week. Materials must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.Curbside Collection

The landfill will be closed at 12 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and will reopen on Dec. 28, and Jan. 3. (www.barrie.ca/CurbsideCollection)

City Hall

City Hall will be closed on Dec. 26, 27 and Jan. 2. 

Holiday hours for all Recreation Facilities

Open: Dec. 24 & Dec. 31: 6 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Closed: Dec. 25, 26 & Jan. 1

Parking

Downtown parking (on-street and lots) is free on all statutory holidays. Waterfront parking is enforced 24/7/365; residents must display their permits and visitors are required to pay $3/hour (daily maximum: $15).

From December 1st through March 31, on-street parking is not permitted from 3–6am within the Downtown BIA, and on other City streets from 12:01–7am. (www.barrie.ca/parking)

If the weather forecast on New Year’s Eve is suitable (ie. not requiring Winter Control), on-street parking will be permitted for this night only. The decision to not enforce the overnight parking restriction on New Year’s Eve will be made on Dec. 30, and will be communicated on www.barrie.ca/snow, the City’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, an E-bulletin and sent to media.
