Human remains found in the woods in Springwater Township north of Barrie have been identified as 30-year old Jamiee Lee Miller of Barrie.

Miller was last seen by family and friends on Oct. 3, 2015 and was last heard from via text message on Thanksgiving weekend.

A person walking a dog discovered the remains on Wednesday in the Simcoe County Forest on the east side of Gill Road off a trail popular with hikers and dog walkers.

The remains were removed from the scene Thursday evening and a post-mortem was conducted Friday at the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Services in Toronto.

"Through the course of that very detailed examination it has been determined that Jamiee Lee Miller of Barrie was a victim of homicide," said OPP Sgt. Peter Leon.

The cause of death is not being released and additional testing is being conducted.

Miller was reported missing to Barrie Police on Nov. 2, 2015.

Police said her disappearance had left family and friends concerned for her well-being as it was out of character for her.

Miller’s mom lives in Kanata, but her daughter’s last known address was in the Barrie area.

BarrieToday.com spoke with Miller's mom in January and at that time she was hopeful that a possible sighting of Jamiee in Peel Region would lead to finding Jamiee.

Detectives from the OPP and the Barrie Police Service are working together to identify the person or persons responsible for Jamiee's death.

More than a dozen officers were still searching the area Friday for possible evidence.

"If any member of the public has any information we encourage them to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 , Barrie Police at (705) 725-7025 ext. 2160 or Crime Stoppers," Leon said.
