Midland's iconic Knox Presbyterian Church, standing tall as a testament to the town's rich heritage, is preparing to mark a historic milestone.
With roots tracing back over a century, this architectural gem has been a cornerstone of the Midland community, witnessing countless weddings, ceremonies, and gatherings that have woven its story into the fabric of Midland.
Established in 1898, Knox Church, located at 539 Hugel Ave., has served as a beacon of unity and faith, drawing generations of worshippers and visitors seeking solace and community.
Its stunning stained glass windows, majestic bell tower and timeless architecture have not only stood as a symbol of religious devotion but also as a cherished landmark for locals and tourists alike.
However, with a mixture of nostalgia and anticipation, the congregation of Knox Church has made the monumental decision to embark on a new journey.
"After careful consideration and heartfelt discussions, we have sold the building and the congregation is set to move to a new location, signaling a poignant yet promising shift in its legacy," says the church's leadership and congregation.
They say the decision to relocate stems from a desire to better serve the evolving needs of the community at large.
"This momentous change represents an exciting opportunity for Knox Church to continue its mission in a fresh setting, a new beginning, while honouring our profound history in Midland," the congregation says.
They say they can’t possibly take everything with them and are holding a Treasure Day, or garage sale, which will include "incredible deals."
The sale begins at noon on Friday, Jan 5 and at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan 6.
"Be prepared for a treasure trove of discounts on a wide range of goods — furniture, tables, chairs, dishes, cutlery, decorations and more," the congregation says. "From sparkling gems to rare finds, this sale is your chance to purchase a treasure from the history of Knox Church, Midland."
The doors of this beloved historical site will close as a church at the end of January.
The community is invited to share in a celebration service on Sunday, Jan. 21 starting at 10:30 a.m.
"The move, while bittersweet, symbolizes the resilience and adaptability of the Knox congregation as we look ahead to a vibrant future in our new location at 248 Midland Ave. We will carry with us the spirit and memories cherished by all those lives touched by this beautiful building throughout the years," they say.
