Today marks the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of Barrie senior Mandy Thompson.

Thompson, 72, walked out of her Laidlaw Drive home on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 just after 7:30 a.m. and, despite numerous searches, has never been located.

Barrie Police obtained video surveillance that captured Mandy walking north-bound on Penetanguishene Road, the morning of her disappearance at 10 a.m.

Vehicle canvases along Penetanguishene Road were conducted and with assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police and Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue, ground and aerial searches were done in the north-east end of Barrie and into Oro-Medonte Township.

Police say the investigation into her disappearance is ongoing and continues to be treated as a missing person’s case.

"After a difficult year our family continues to hope for closure to find Mandy," the Thompson family said in a statement.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have seen something but never called it in because they may have thought it was too late or insignificant, we ask them to call police now or call Crime Stoppers if they want to remain anonymous."

Mandy is described as:

  • Medium build
  • Short red-brown hair
  • Brown eyes
  • Wearing a black knee length jacket, white sweater, jeans and white running shoes.

Police have set up a tip line at (705) 725-7025 ext. 2160 for anyone who may have information on Mandy Thompson. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or anonymously online at www.tipsubmit.com
