Student becomes health minister in mock parliament

Today, Andrea Chiappetta, a student from St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School, is at Queens Park in Toronto, Ontario getting a first-hand look into what it is like to be a Member of Provincial Parliament.

Earlier this year, Andrea was chosen from hundreds of applicants to participate in the Ontario Model Parliament Program hosted by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

Andrea will spend the next three days simulating what it is like to be a member of provincial government.

There will be 107 student participants who will go through the motion of getting a bill passed in the legislature.

There will be a caucus and question period.

Andrea has spent the past four months researching and preparing for his role in this "mock" event and he has the special honour of being the Minister of Health representative.

"I am both honoured and excited to participate in this life changing program," said Andrea Chiappetta. "By bringing together 106 other youth with a similar political passion, the Legislature is helping form the world leaders of tomorrow - and for that I am eternally grateful."
