Man charged with assault, female suspect sought in candy theft

Employee attempted to stop the woman, but was pushed by the male and the two fled on foot

The Barrie Police has recently received video surveillance and are seeking the public’s assistance to identify a suspect wanted for a theft.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016 at 12:20 a.m. a man and woman entered Mac’s Convenience located at 149 Dunlop Street, East in the City of Barrie.

In an attempt to distract the store employee the male stood at the counter and engaged the employee in conversation, while the female quickly filled her bag with various candies.

The woman motioned to the male to leave and as they were walking out of the store the employee attempted to stop the woman, but was pushed by the male and the two fled on foot.

Police located the male suspect just before 2 a.m. that morning. He had been intoxicated and passed out in a nearby park surrounded by candy wrappers.

The 30-year-old Barrie male was arrested for assault, theft under $5,000 and public intoxication. He was later released with a future court date in September.

The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking the female suspect.

The suspect is described as;

  • Female, white
  • Medium build
  • Dark shoulder length hair
  • Wearing a blue shirt, black and grey shorts and carrying a bag.
