Mary Street will temporarily move to two-way traffic (5 photos)

Mary Street will become two-way from Dunlop to Ross streets from July to November to get traffic around the work zone

The city will temporarily convert Mary Street in downtown Barrie from one-way to two-way traffic during the Dunlop Street revitalization project.

The Dunlop Street corridor project will take place in three stages in 2020. Mary Street will become two-way from Dunlop to Ross streets in the second and third stages, which are expected to happen from July to November.

The side street is currently only one-way for traffic heading north away from downtown.

Making Mary Street two-way during construction "will allow for sufficient traffic flows around the work zone," said Tawnya Gurchin, the city's acting manager of developer and special projects, in a memo to council.

The parking spots on Mary Street will be eliminated during construction in the area, because Mary Street is not wide enough to allow for two-way traffic as well as on-street parking, Gurchin added.
