NEWS RELEASE
ROTARY CLUB OF BARRIE

The Rotary Club of Barrie in partnership with the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) gave a free book to Grade 2 students at 26 Barrie schools to promote literacy and good will. In the past Rotarians and local distinguished guests would visit schools to read the book to the students. Considering the current Health situation, The Rotary Club of Barrie's mascot Sprocket was videotaped reading the book which has been distributed to the schools for viewing.
This event is aligned with the SCDSB’s strategic priorities of developing community partnerships and our character education program. Andy and Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure is a story of a young entrepreneur named Andy who, with the help of a mysterious voice providing guidance and support, learns the value of truthfulness, fairness, goodwill and partnerships that benefit everyone involved.
For over 70 years the Rotary Club of Barrie has been raising money to support its community for groups such as RVH, Georgian College, Gilda’s Club, Hospice Simcoe, the library, the YMCA, Muscular Dystrophy Canada, the Seasons Centre, Rainbows Canada, Cope Dogs, the Salvation Army and many more. We’ve also helped beautify Barrie with the Centennial Beach Fountain, South Shore Community Centre, Rotary Islands, Kidd’s Creek redevelopment and a Post Clock at the City of Barrie’s government dock that is a new landmark to celebrate Canada’s Sesquicentennial.
Rotary International is 1.2 million neighbours, friends, and community leaders who come together to create positive, lasting change in our communities and around the world.
Rotary is where neighbours, friends, and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders, and take action to create lasting change.
Our differing occupations, cultures, and countries give us a unique perspective. Our shared passion for service helps us accomplish the remarkable.
