May Court Club donations will help Barrie youth shelter, food bank

Organization makes donations of $10K to Youth Haven and $12,650 to Barrie Food Bank

The May Court Club of Barrie made two big donations this week with money raised through their ladies consignment clothing shop on Maple Avenue.

On Tuesday at the shop, $10,000 was presented to the New Haven for Youth Haven campaign.

This on top of a donation made last year of $5,000 toward kitchen appliances, the philanthropic club said in a release.

Youth Haven hopes to be in their new building by late fall.

May Court also made a donation of $12,650 to the Barrie Food Bank.

"This money will mean that our volunteers don't have to continue to cut the egg cartons in half; we can now give a dozen eggs out to the many people coming to the food bank," Karen Shuh of the Barrie Food Bank said.

The Barrie Food Bank served more than 7,000 individuals in May this year. This is up 70 per cent from May 2023.

Food donations from Christmas drives normally held over until Easter were gone by February this year due to the unprecedented demand, the May Court Club noted.
