Midhurst garage a total loss

The quick attack by firefighters prevented it from spreading to nearby homes and trees, says fire chief

SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP– At approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, Springwater Fire & Emergency Services responded to a fully involved garage fire on Wattie Road in Midhurst.

The fire was quickly brought under control within 30 minutes, however the garage was deemed a total loss.

A total of two fire stations and approximately 25 firefighters responded to the fire, which was called in by a neighbour who witnessed thick black smoke pouring from the garage.

The cause of the fire was electrical in nature and damage is estimated at approximately $80,000.

“The fast attack from firefighters was instrumental in knocking the fire down quickly,” says Interim Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French. “Firefighters did an excellent job of bringing it under control and limiting exposure to the nearby residence and surrounding trees.”
