Operation "Back To School" starts Tuesday

INNISFIL - If you misbehave while driving in a school zone next week, you might find yourself getting a good talking to from the Chief of Police.

Chief Rick Beazley, Deputy Andrew Fletcher and many more officers will be out in force next week to ensure our Back To School safe driving message is getting through.

The first week of our school safety blitz will have officers in every school zone, stopping drivers and reminding them of the rules of the road.

"We're looking for speeders, distracted drivers, red light runners...anyone not doing their part to keep kids safe,” said Chief Beazley. "Children are our most importance resource and we're serious about keeping them safe."

While a verbal reprimand might be all you get this time, don't expect to get off so lightly in the future. South Simcoe Police will be writing tickets in school zones for week two and beyond.

"Education is important, and some drivers need to be reminded to drive safely in school zones,” said traffic officer Paul Catling. "Sometimes the best reminder is a ticket."

Some traffic tips for students include being aware of your surroundings, and crossing only at lights or pedestrian crossovers.

Parents are encouraged to speak to their kids about the rules of the road.
