A city parking lot along Mulcaster Street is set to close in mid-May after the property was sold.
The property is located on the southwest corner of Collier and Mulcaster streets, across from city hall.
The city transferred ownership of the property to Pacc Mulcaster Corp., in June 2015 and continued to operate the parking lot after the deal closed.
The transaction did not include the land and armoury building occupied by the Grey and Simcoe Foresters Regimental Museum, nor the and the Firefighters Monument located at the corner.
The city has two registered easements that continue in perpetuity on the property that was sold, including one that allows for access and maintenance of the Firefighters Monument, as the property under the monument was sold, and a three-metre strip surrounding the armoury building, also for access and maintenance.
The city has been told that ownership of the property has now transferred to Vitmont Holdings (Barrie) Inc. The new owner has requested that the city stop using the Mulcaster Street property to allow for remediation work to proceed.
The property is poised for a possible redevelopment.
“We know there is development interest for the property, however the city has not received a formal development application at this time," said Andrea Miller, the city's general manager of infrastructure and growth management.
