Springwater Mayor Don Allen, members of council and township staff were pleased to celebrate the official unveiling of the newly constructed park in the Stonemanor Woods Phase 2 subdivision last Friday.

The Stonemanor Woods Phase 2 subdivision was one of the residential areas identified for the creation of parkland in the township’s updated parks and recreation master plan (2016). Based on the forecasted population growth in the area, it was recommended that a new neighbourhood park be developed to meet the future needs of the community. The project was included and approved for funding in the 2021 capital budget.

Three design concepts were developed based on consultations with the community and other key stakeholders on the contents and layout of the park. The public was then asked to vote on their preferred design concept, with the ‘park n play’ design ultimately selected for its capacity to serve a diverse range of ages and abilities.

Construction of the park began earlier this summer, which included the installation of junior and senior play structures, tennis, basketball and pickleball courts, and landscaping. The park also features a large open field space for passive recreation as well as accessible paths connecting each of the amenities.

“Investing in neighbourhood parks is a fundamental part of building healthy, thriving, and inclusive communities,” said Mayor Don Allen, who led the ribbon cutting on Friday. “Today’s park opening demonstrates our commitment to providing high-quality parks and facilities so that every Springwater resident has the opportunity to enjoy nature and recreation close to home. We are very pleased to be officially opening this new space.”

The new park is located at the corner of Victoria Wood Avenue and Daly Court.
