A unique and fun auction is happening tonight where winning bidders could walk away with items valued 10 times their original bid.
The IOOF Seniors Homes at 10 Brooks St. is hosting their Merry Magical Evening tonight with an assortment of Christmas trees full of items waiting for the winning bidder.
Micheline Robichaud, IOOF manager of revenue development, said this event is the first of its kind for the organization - but definitely not the last.
“The really fun part is the Christmas trees have been donated and decorated by local businesses who have added some great items to the trees,” said Robichaud.
“There are some beautiful ornaments on the trees that you get but also some contain gift cards as well. The response has been so positive and companies have been wanting in, but now we have to have them commit to next year as we’re at the ready-point for the night.”
Robichaud said that you can pay for your winning bid by following the event but you don’t have to worry about lugging the huge tree home this evening.
“You’ll pay tonight by credit card, cash, whatever the case may be and then arrange for pick-up next week,” said Robichaud. “We take down all the trees, re-wrap the ornaments and put it all aside for you for when you can pick it up.”
Bids start at $50 and some of the trees and their contents are worth $500 to $600. There is also a silent auction, baked goods, vendors and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus, who will be taking letters and handing out gifts for kids.
The event is free to attend and all the money raised will go towards improving resident care through much-needed renovations and purchasing accessible bathtubs.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with the live auction being held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The silent auction closes at 8:30 p.m.
