An Everett man and a Cookstown woman face a litany of drug charges after a Barrie police patrol came across an "oddly parked" car at the Wellington Plaza last night.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Aug. 29, officers found a suspicious vehicle in the Wellington Street West parking lot.
"As they approached the car, they observed a male and female occupying the front seats, four dogs in the back seat and evidence that suggested that the adult occupants were parked where they were for the sole purpose of using illegal narcotics," police stated in a news release.
A 34-year-old Everett man and a 31-year-old Cookstown woman were placed under arrest for possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine) and police began a drug-related investigation.
Inside the vehicle, police say they located and seized drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxyamphetamine (known as molly), acid, oxycodone, a "large amount" of cash, three AirSoft firearms, and other "evidence to support the fact that the identified drugs were being trafficked."
The vehicle's occupants were transported to Barrie Police Headquarters and were jointly charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - methamphetamine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - methylenedioxyamphetamine (molly)
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - methylenedioxyamphetamine (molly)
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - oxycodone
- Possession of a Schedule I substance - oxycodone
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - acid
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – acid.
Police say the woman was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Oct. 11, 2023.
The man, who was also charged with failure to comply with an undertaking, was held in custody and is scheduled to appear by video Wednesday afternoon for a bail hearing at the Barrie courthouse.
