The South Simcoe Police Service and other police services across Ontario are celebrating Police Week until May 23.
The goal is to celebrate the work front-line police officers, 9-1-1 communicators, civilian staff, and other members of Ontario police services do to keep Ontarians safe and healthy, noted a media release from South Simcoe police.
On Saturday, both the Innisfil and Bradford divisions of the South Simcoe Police hosted an open house that drew both kids and adults.
Open house visitors were able to meet the members, tour the stations, check out their vehicles and learn about what they do. Specialized units on display included traffic and marine, emergency response, forensic identification, canine, community services, and auxiliary.
The theme for Police Week this year is 'Building Bridges: Celebrating Police-Community Partnerships.' The theme emphasizes the importance of ongoing collaboration between police and community partners to support a holistic approach to service delivery and response efforts
"It also highlights and celebrates the important role our police officers and personnel play in community safety, and the vital relationships police have with their communities," notes the media release.
The annual Police Week in Ontario is sponsored by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General. It is part of the National Police Week led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.
