Paying their respects to fallen heroes

An Honour Guard will be holding ceremonies at local cemeteries today, to honour fallen heroes from the First World War

Canadian Forces Base Borden's 100th anniversary celebrations continue this week, with an Honour Guard visiting local cemeteries to pay respects to those who served during the First World War.

Sailors, soldiers and airmen will continue the tributes today, honouring the fallen heroes interred in local cemeteries.

The Honour Guard including personnel from Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre, Canadian Forces Health Services Training Centre and 16 Wing at CFB Borden are travelling around Simcoe County in a tour bus, holding ceremonies at four locations each day.

The visited cemeteries in Everett, Stayner, Minesing and Shanty Bay on Wednesday. 

Ceremonies will be held on Thursday at:

  • 8:30 - 9 a.m. at Alliston Union Cemetery, Alliston
  • 10:15 -10:45 a.m. at St. Jude Anglican Cemetery, Ivy
  • 12:45 - 1:15 p.m. St. James Cemetery, Stroud
  • 2:15 - 2:45 p.m. at Thornton Union Cemetery, Thornton
