Barrie police have confirmed the identity of a man killed in Saturday's roof collapse in the city's south end.
Police say the 77-year-old man, who owned the property at 429 Yonge St., was in the process of demolishing the house when the roof collapsed and killed him. The man's name has not been released.
Emergency crews responded to a 911 call shortly before 1 p.m., Saturday, for a building collapse near Little Avenue.
Firefighters had to cut access holes in the roof to pull the man from the rubble. He was the only person in the house at the time.
Neighbours told BarrieToday that the man owned several properties along Yonge Street and had been working on the home at 429 Yonge St., where the collapse occurred. They said he lived in the house nearby, at 435 Yonge St.
One neighbour described the victim as "a nice gentleman."
A Barrie fire department official said the property will be turned over to the city's building department for further investigation.
The police investigation is also ongoing.
