A swim advisory has been posted for Minet's Point Beach in south Barrie following a sewage spill Monday afternoon.

According to the city, a contractor working on the Bayview Drive road improvement project hit a sewer line, causing a spill. City staff responded immediately to begin the cleanup.

As a result of the spill, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has recommended that a swim advisory be posted for Minet's Point Beach. Signs have also been posted.

"This is precautionary in nature," the city said in a notice issued Monday evening.
