'It’s really appalling to me the president of the United States would abdicate his responsibility in facing the threat that affects the whole world'

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne will keep working with American state governors to fight climate change, even as President Donald Trump pulls out of the Paris agreement.

Before making a campaign-style stop in Barrie to promote a proposed law to force companies to pay employees fairly, Wynne tackled “the threat that affects the whole world.”

“It’s really appalling to me the president of the United States would abdicate his responsibility in facing the threat that affects the whole world. We have taken the lead to fight climate change in North America, and we did that even when we had a prime minister that was not supportive.

“The role of municipalities, of states and provinces and of nations is even more important than it was a few days ago.

“As premier, I will be working with governors,” she said, adding she’s heading to the United States next week.

“We are already partnering with California in our cap-and-trade. We will continue to fight climate change. It is a shared responsibility. What President Trump has done is even more outrageous.

“It’s very disappointing to hear the president of the United States does not see the USA at the federal level having a role to play in fighting climate change.”
