Georgian College’s Barrie campus is teaming up with Horseshoe Resort in Oro-Medonte to provide students with hands-on experience.
From April 3 to 6, 100 fourth-semester hotel and resort students will put their knowledge to use while working in back- and front-of-house positions at Horseshoe Resort, under the guidance of the college’s program co-ordinator, Arthemise Lalonde, and faculty members Steven Hilborn and Leah Smith.
The students will “fill the roles of both guest and host, allowing them to put their classroom theory into practice and gain practical industry-related experience,” a college news release stated.
“Their hectic schedule will have them cooking and serving meals, cleaning hotel guestrooms and checking themselves in as guests," the release added.
The program will include a gala event, when a role reversal will see volunteer hotel and resort faculty serving a meal to the students.
