Police are strongly advising people of all ages to beware of telephone scams, commonly known as the; Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Emergency/Grandparent Scam.

These scams tend to target the elderly, although people of all ages have fallen victim.

The suspects play upon people's emotions to rob them of their money.

Emergency/Grandparent Scam:

Suspects will state a family member has been injured in an accident or has been arrested and they require money immediately.

Canada Revenue Agency (C.R.A) Scam:

Suspects will call your home or cell phone number and advise that you owe money to the C.R.A, and if you do not pay the police will issue a warrant for your arrest, OR they will state they are the police and require your personal information such as a S.I.N number and/or banking information.

Furthermore, they will demand you provide immediate payment or risk being arrested.

Police will never call to collect money or arrest someone on behalf of the C.R.A.

Tips To Remember:

  1. Government and Financial agencies will NEVER ask for your personal information over the phone or discuss monies owing.
  2. NEVER send money to anyone you do not know.
  3. DO NOT give out personal information.
  4. ASK questions. Be prepared these people can become VERY rude. Do not be afraid to HANG UP!
  5. CALL family BEFORE sending money to verify the story.
