South Simcoe Police say their message to drivers to slow down for back to school in school zones was lost on two motorists Tuesday morning.

Const. Rich Williamson says a private school bus driver is facing charges after allegedly driving 42 km/h over the speed limit through a school zone.

It happened just after 8 a.m. and it involved a school van driving through Cookstown with children on board in a school safety zone.

"It's a school purposes vehicle.  It was carrying kids,  It's like a little van," said Williamson.

Also Tuesday morning, a South Simcoe Police motorcycle officer stopped a car in a school zone for allegedly going 51 km/h over the speed limit.

The driver was stopped in front of Innisfil Central School on Line 5 east of Yonge around 9 a.m.

The car was impounded and the driver's license was suspended.

"Our plan was to educate and inform but when you have speeds like this we can't ignore that or even condone it," said Const. Rich Williamson. "We have to write a ticket.  These are ridiculous speeds.  Ridiculous."

Fines are doubled for driving over the speed limit in designated school zones.
