Second arrest made in fraud case

The Barrie Police Fraud Unit has arrested a 26-year-old Innisfil man following a lengthy investigation which entailed the defrauding of several local businesses, that has been estimated to total upwards of $60,000.00. 

In December of 2016 the suspects began defrauding local furnace, air conditioning companies and building centers utilizing fraudulent credit card data. On January 6, 2017, the accused had been captured on video surveillance driving a blue Jeep Compass onto the property of condominium located on Big Bay Point Road, in the City of Barrie. The accused was then observed breaking into the front doors of the lobby, where he stood-by for a delivery of an air conditioning unit. Upon delivery the accused loaded the unit into the back of his Jeep and fled the area.

The 26-year-old has been charged with; Fraud Over $5,000, six counts of Fraud Under $5,000, two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Break and Enter and two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

The accused will appear in bail court Tuesday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing. It is believed there may be further suspects outstanding.
