Businesses in Barrie, Lisle, Orillia and Port Severn have been cited for food safety violations following recent inspections by Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit officials.

Petro-Canada, located at 5402 Highway 11 South in Orillia, has been convicted of two “critical infractions” following a routine inspection that occurred last fall.

According to a health unit report updated June 20, the station was found not to be in compliance and failed to “ensure the water treatment equipment is in operation whenever water is supplied,” as well as failure to sample and test drinking water in accordance with assigned frequency.

Spynn restaurant in Barrie had its order to close rescinded June 13 after a routine inspection in April found the Fairview Road restaurant to be "failing to protect against entry, harbouring and breeding of pests."

Starport Marina in Port Severn was given an issue to comply by the local health unit on June 25, following the inspection of “small drinking water systems.”

Silver Brooke Golf Club in Lisle was also given an issue to comply by the local health unit on June 27, following the inspection of “small drinking water systems."

The health unit's reports for both note a failure to ensure the premises are operated and maintained free from conditions that may be an immediate health hazard.

Both of those orders are still pending.

Fast-food restaurant A&W, located at 3315 Monarch Dr., in Orillia, is facing a ticket for failing to maintain clean floors in the food-handling room following a June 14 complaint.

The ticket, which is currently “pending,” according to the health unit's website, was issued June 18. An inspection, conducted June 26, found a failure to “protect food from contamination and/or adulteration, which was corrected during the inspection."
