COUNTY OF SIMCOE

The County is launching its new online Archives Booking Service. Researchers and the general public can now book an appointment online to access the Archives, as well as archival staff assistance.
“Simcoe County Archives provides an invaluable service to our communities in safeguarding public records and significant local artifacts,” said Warden George Cornell. “This online tool makes it easier for people to access the Archives or donate private records to our Archives for safekeeping.”
The Simcoe County Archives manages the permanent records of both the County of Simcoe and its constituent municipalities. The Archives document the collective memory of the County by acquiring and preserving the historical record in all recording media. These documents are available to the public for research purposes.
Appointments can be booked online at www.simcoe.ca/BookArchivesServices for the following purposes*:
- Reference interviews – Reference interviews can be scheduled with Archives staff to discuss potential research topics and projected. Staff can suggest relevant collections and reference materials to help research a given topic. These appointments can be conducted via phone or the internet
- Donor interviews – The County houses resources that have been donated by families and private businesses as well as government offices. To discuss the donation of items to the County Archives, phone or virtual meetings can be booked online. In-person donation drop-off appointments can be booked online following a virtual donor interview
*The Archives is a mask-friendly environment. As research and donation visits can be lengthy and may involve on-going close contact with staff, we strongly encourage you to wear a mask for in-person visits to the Archives. If you feel sick, please stay home, contact us so we can reschedule, and get well.
