Deputy Warden Terry Dowdall hosted the 12th annual County of Simcoe Gala at the Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston on Sept. 27, 2018. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of numerous individuals, businesses and organizations, the Gala raised more than $50,000 in support of United Way Simcoe Muskoka.
“We thank everyone that contributed to another successful and impactful County fundraising initiative to boost and support the community efforts of the United Way,” said Deputy Warden Terry Dowdall. “The County’s Gala has raised more than $700,000 over the past 12 years, providing support to residents in critical need and helping to arm our community partners with the resources they need to implement life-changing programs.”
Highlights of the evening included decadent food stations provided by the Nottawasaga Inn Resort, entertainment by a troop of performers Tyler Murree, Heather McGuigan, Michael De Rose, Stephanie Cadman and Laura Landauer and Musical Director Jonathan Monro, as well as the outstanding work of KICX FM morning host Carey Moran as the evening’s emcee.
The County of Simcoe is a proud partner of United Way Simcoe Muskoka in part because of the complementary missions. As the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager, the County administers essential social services programs for residents throughout the region including the cities of Barrie and Orillia through the Children and Community Services, Social Housing, and Ontario Works departments.
“Lives will improve in our local communities because of the funds generated by tonight’s event,” said UWSM Board Chair Catherine Campbell, whose team works closely with the County of Simcoe and many other community partners to address high-priority social challenges. “When we all work together on important issues, the results are game-changing for individuals and for whole communities. The ongoing support and generosity of Deputy Warden Terry Dowdall, County Councillors, gala sponsors and guests are deeply valued for their power to further this critical work.”
United Way Simcoe Muskoka invests grants, research and expertise to fuel high-impact poverty-reduction initiatives across local communities. These life-changing resources provide the support County residents need, when they need them, to help them reach their potential.
County of Simcoe is composed of 16 member municipalities and provides crucial public services to County residents in addition to providing paramedic and social services to the separated cities of Barrie and Orillia. Visit our website at simcoe.ca.
